The honorary degree is one of higher education's most significant accolades. MUSC awards honorary degrees to distinguished individuals who merit special recognition and who have made contributions to the nation, to science and/or to the State of South Carolina or to MUSC.
NOTE: From 1833 through 1838, during the medical school split, both medical schools (the Medical College of South Carolina and the Medical College of the State of South Carolina) had commencements. The split ended in early 1839 with the name of school becoming the Medical College of the State of South Carolina.
