The Waring Historical Library welcomes the Medical University of South Carolina community and visitors to explore its collections and exhibits, the holdings of the MUSC University Archives, and the Macaulay Museum of Dental History.
The Waring History Library and Macaulay Museum of Dental History are generally open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm weekdays, except for holidays, if a staff member is available. If you are a researcher, it is best to set up an appointment for a visit. Unannounced researchers may not receive same day service. Visitors of the Macaulay Museum should come to the Waring to access the museum.
The library is closed for most state and federal holidays.
The Waring is located at 175 Ashley Avenue adjacent to St. Luke's Chapel (See map). For directions to the MUSC campus, visit the MUSC Libraries website.
There is no available parking at the Waring. Street parking is available at metered spots along Ashley Avenue and Bee Street. The nearest parking garage is the Rutledge Tower parking garage, with entrances on Rutledge and Ashley Avenues.
Walking from the Rutledge Tower garage, proceed north (with traffic) on Ashley Avenue, past the entrance to the MUSC Horseshoe. The next driveway on your left is the entrance to a loading dock for the Basic Sciences Building and the Darby Children's Research Institute. You may also pull your car in this driveway for quick drop-off and pick-up at the Waring. Please do not park in this driveway; it is a fire lane, and you will be ticketed.
