The Waring Historical Library welcomes the Medical University of South Carolina community and visitors to explore its collections and exhibits, the holdings of the MUSC University Archives, and the Macaulay Museum of Dental History.
Hours
The Waring History Library is generally open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm weekdays, except for holidays, upon staff availability for researchers. Appointments are required. Unannounced researchers may not receive same day service.
The library is closed for most state and federal holidays.
COVID-19 Precautions
The Waring is currently welcoming researchers back into the library building. Researchers should contact the Waring's Curator, Brian Fors, and complete the Submit a Reference Request form to schedule a time to view materials. Tours of the Waring and Macaulay Museum of Dental History are currently on hold.
The Waring adheres to current CDC and MUSC guidelines. Anyone who has been fully vaccinated will not be required to wear a mask, while those who have not been fully vaccinated will need to be masked in the building.
Directions
The Waring is located at 175 Ashley Avenue adjacent to St. Luke's Chapel (See map). For directions to the MUSC campus, visit the MUSC Libraries website.
Parking
There is no available parking at the Waring. Street parking is available at metered spots along Ashley Avenue and Bee Street. The nearest parking garage is the Rutledge Tower parking garage, with entrances on Rutledge and Ashley Avenues.
Walking from the Rutledge Tower garage, proceed north (with traffic) on Ashley Avenue, past the entrance to the MUSC Horseshoe. The next driveway on your left is the entrance to a loading dock for the Basic Sciences Building and the Darby Children's Research Institute. You may also pull your car in this driveway for quick drop-off and pick-up at the Waring. Please do not park in this driveway; it is a fire lane, and you will be ticketed.
