Evidence-based practice (EBP) is based on the integration of critically appraised research results with the clinical expertise, and the client’s preferences, beliefs and values. To promote EBP, AOTA has developed a number of resources to assist members find and utilize clinically-relevant literature to respond to both their clients’ needs and to external demands for information from the scientific literature.
The Appraisal of Guidelines for Research & Evaluation Instrument (AGREE II) is used to assess the methodological rigor and transparency in which a practice guideline was developed, and address the issue of variability in the quality of practice guidelines.
The CONSORT Statement is intended to improve the reporting of a randomized controlled trial (RCT), enabling readers to understand a trial's design, conduct, analysis and interpretation, and to assess the validity of its results.
