Welcome to Evidence-based Practice for Dietetic Interns! This tutorial was created to introduce you to the steps of evidence-based practice (EBP) and how to apply them during your internship and beyond. As your instructors for this tutorial, we look forward to working with you on your Professional Research Presentation (PRP) project. We are also available to assist you with any EBP or research-related questions you or your preceptor(s) may have throughout your internship rotations.

Learning Objectives

Introduction to Evidence-Based Practice (EBP)

  1. Identify the major components of the EBP process.
  2. Develop clinical question(s) using PICO format.
  3. Search databases for evidence.
  4. Understand research methods and basic statistics used in nutrition research. 
  5. Critically analyze research articles using hierarchy of evidence.

Upon completion of these modules, you should be able to synthesize collected evidence into a research paper and make decisions based on evidence to improve care or clinical processes as part of daily dietetics practice.
