Patient Education Resources (MUSC Only)
The resources below are available to MUSC students, staff and faculty. They are intended for use by healthcare professionals to educate patients on diseases, medications, and more.
- AccessMedicinePatient Education: Includes over 100 patient education handouts on broad, common topics such as "skin cancer." Each handout summarizes basic information about a condition and provides treatment options. From the AccessMedicine homepage, click on "Patient Ed" to view the titles of the handouts.
Infographics: Includes inforgraphics on common health conditions and diseases. From the AccessMedicine homepage, click on "Infographics" to browse by medical specialty. - Lexidrug (formerly known as Lexicomp)Lexidrug Patient Education module provides patient educational packets with information on medications, conditions, and/or procedures. The condition/procedure leaflets are available in English and Spanish, while the adult- and pediatric-specific medication leaflets are available in up to 19 languages.

Free online resource for patients, along with their families and friends, offering reliable information on health topics, drugs, supplements, genetics, medical tests, and more. A service of the National Library of Medicine, the world's largest medical library, and the National Institutes of Health.
- PubMedAllows you to filter your search results by Patient Education Handouts. Some journals have begun publishing summaries intended for patients or the lay public to explain a procedure or condition or summarize or comment on articles that report scientific or medical findings in the same issue.
Once you run a search, filter your results to Article Type: Patient Education Handouts. - UpToDate (Patient Info tab)Contains 1000+ patient education materials about the most common medical conditions, procedures, and medications. All patient education information available in English and Spanish.
The Basics: Topics are 1-3 pages in length, written in simple language and are best for a general overview.
Beyond the Basics: Topics are 5-10 pages long and more detailed. They are for individuals who are comfortable with some technical medical terms.
