Affecting more than ten percent of the United States population, diabetes proves to continue to impact millions of lives. This condition, however, is not only a contemporary issue. In his current research, Dr. Richard Mizelle connects diabetes with the history of race in the twentieth century. Join us for the October Student History Club (SHC) Noon Lecture for his talk on the intersection of chronic disease and social activism in America.
Dr. Richard McKinley Mizelle, Jr. is an Associate Professor of History at the University of Houston. His research, writing, and lecturing focus on the history of race and healthcare politics, chronic disease, environmental health, and the historical connections between gender, identity, and ethnicity in medicine.
The lecture will take place Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at 12 PM EST on Zoom. This event is open to the public. Virtual seating is limited and registration is required by Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at 6 PM to reserve your seat and to receive login information.
