What are OER?
Open Educational Resources (OER) are learning, teaching and research materials in any format and medium that reside in the public domain or are under copyright that have been released under an open license, that permit no-cost access, re-use, re-purpose, adaptation and redistribution by others (UNESCO, 2019).

Other health science doctorate completers with loans = 75% - Open educational resources, student efficacy, and user perceptions: a synthesis of research published between 2015 and 20182020 study synthesized results from studies involving 121,168 students or faculty that examine either (1) OER and student efficacy in higher education settings or (2) the perceptions of college students and/or instructors who have used OER. Results across these studies suggest students achieve the same or better learning outcomes when using OER while saving significant amounts of money.

Open Educational Resources (OER) positions MUSC to “become the preeminent model for inclusion and equity...” by leading affordable learning initiatives in health professions education. Adopting OER supports our goals to “reimagine the learning experience to optimize educational value,” by replacing high-cost traditional textbooks with free or library-licensed resources, and to "forge innovative cross-campus partnerships to increase the scale, scope, and impact” of MUSC's OER initiatives.
