Director

Shannon D. Jones, MLS, M.Ed, AHIP
Director

Shannon Jones (she/her/hers) is the Director of Libraries for the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston. In this role, Shannon assumes leadership for all aspects of the library including strategic planning, budgeting, technology integration, facility management and operation, and personnel administration. Shannon is also Director, Region 2, NNLM. Prior to her arrival at MUSC, Shannon worked as the Associate Director, Research and Education at the Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond.  

Shannon received her MLS from North Carolina Central University (NCCU). In addition to the MLS, Shannon also holds a MIS from NCCU, an M.Ed in Adult Learning from VCU, and a BA in English from North Carolina State University. She is currently pursuing an Ed.D in Educational Leadership at Charleston Southern University.

Shannon is an active member of the American Library Association, the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL), and the Medical Library Association (MLA) where she is a distinguished member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP). She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the MLA and the Partnership Among South Carolina Academic Libraries (PASCAL). Shannon’s professional interests include staff recruitment and retention, diversity, equity, and inclusion in libraries, organizational learning and development, self care for information professionals, and leadership in academic health sciences libraries. Shannon is the co-editor of Diversity and Inclusion in Libraries: A Call to Action and Strategies for Success.

Executive Director

Lorin Jackson, MA, MI
Executive Director

Lorin is originally from New York City. Currently, she lives in West Philadelphia but is looking forward to relocating to Charleston. Lorin graduated from Haverford College with her Bachelor of Arts degree. While there, she studied Philosophy and Education. She received her Master of Arts degree from the California Institute of Integral Studies, where she studied Philosophy and Religion. Later, Lorin attended Rutgers, New Brunswick to receive her Master of Information Science degree. Lorin's experience in libraries includes work in health, special, primary school, and academic libraries. She has worked for nearly three years as a Research and Instruction Resident Librarian, as well as the Black Studies Librarian, at Swarthmore College. In January 2021, Lorin was promoted to Interim Head of Access & User Services.

In April 2019, Lorin co-founded and launched WOC+Lib (wocandlib.org) with LaQuanda Onyemeh. WOC+Lib has been recognized by the American Library Association and the Library of Congress as a digital platform that amplifies the experiences of BIPOC GLAM (gallery, library, archives, museums) workers through their written contributions. Lorin has presented at ACRL, ACRL/NY, for Springshare, NYU Libraries, and at the University of Illinois at Chicago about critical librarianship. Before becoming an academic librarian, Lorin worked with Black and Brown youth in the non-profit and educational sector for over a decade. During this time, she held positions as a teacher and Program Associate in after-school youth development programs in the Bay Area. Lorin continues to mentor BIPOC LGBTQ+ undergraduate students. In her spare time, Lorin likes to listen to music, craft, organize, meal prep, and explore interior design. Find out more about Lorin and her background at lorinj.dev.

Strategists

DeAnn Brame, MLS
Technology and Innovation Strategist

DeAnn Brame

DeAnn (she/her/hers) is the Digital Services and Systems Librarian at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC. Before coming to Winthrop in 2014, DeAnn completed her MLS at North Carolina Central University where she held internships at the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, the US Environmental Protection Agency, and Smith Anderson Law Firm. Most recently DeAnn completed her MBA at Winthrop University.

Her areas of specialization include entrepreneurship, marketing, and healthcare management. DeAnn’s interests include leadership studies and IT management. In her free time DeAnn enjoys going on food adventures and folding book art.

Sarah Fischer, MA
Community Engagement and Outreach Strategist

Sarah Fischer

Sarah has been connecting communities with social, economic and health resources for over 20 years. She started as a Peace Corps small business advisor in rural Morocco. Upon returning to the USA, Sarah continued her community-based work in Denver as Resident Services Coordinator for Hope Communities. Most recently her work brought her to the greater Charleston area where she acted as Executive Director of a non-profit organization providing resources to senior citizens allowing them autonomy to remain at home.

Sarah received her BA from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and holds a MA in International and Intercultural Communication from the University of Denver. In her free time, she can be found exploring new neighborhoods, sampling regional and world culinary specialties, practicing hot yoga and traveling. Sarah is excited to be part of the RML team as the Community Engagement and Outreach Coordinator for Region 2.

Elizabeth Roth, MA
Research and Data Sciences Strategist

Elizabeth Roth

Elizabeth joins the Region 2 RML with a decade of experience in managing the activities of public and private health grants. From providing HIV testing in night clubs to running clinic-based quality improvement programs, Elizabeth demonstrates a passion for addressing health inequities and improving health literacy.

She received a MA in political science from the Lehigh University Community Fellows program, where she completed a one-year fellowship and subsequent employment with the Community Health Department of St. Luke’s Hospital and Health Network, in Bethlehem, PA. Most recently, Elizabeth built and managed the Be Well at NPL program at Nashville Public Library, integrating public health strategies into the daily operations of a public library system. She looks forward to connecting with NNLM members across the region and living near the ocean.

Debra Trogdon-livingston, MLS
User Experience and Education Strategist

Debra Trogdon-livingston

Debra holds a Master of Library Science degree from East Carolina University and a bachelor’s degree in French from Winthrop University. At East Carolina University, she served as the American Library Association student chapter president, presented several panel discussions, and worked on the Master of Library Science Advisory Board. She was inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society and the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Debra also earned a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace Certificate from University of Southern Florida, MUMA School of Business.

In her more than seventeen years of library experience, Debra has implemented many health initiatives utilizing resources and funding from the NIH and NLM. She has spent much of her last eight years focused on the connection between health and wellness and libraries. Debra is an excellent educator with years of experience researching and presenting workshops and educational programs, both in person and virtually. Debra was a Wellness Ambassador for seven years with Gaston County, NC and was awarded a Wellness Leadership Award in 2018. She is a member of the North Carolina Library Association and the American Library Association. She has presented and participated in multiple local, national, and regional conferences. She enjoys building strong community partnerships and excels at outreach. Debra is excited to join MUSC as the User Experience and Education Coordinator for Region 2.

Grant Administrator/Office Manager

Isaac Chery, MBA, MPM

Isaac Chery

As Grant Administrator/Office Manager, Isaac is responsible for managing the RML budget and performing complex analysis of departmental federal subaward budgets, vendor agreements, timely payment of vendor invoices, tracking expenditures. He will manage day-to-day operations of the office in conjunction with the Executive Director and will work in partnership with the MUSC Library Business Manager on budget planning, costs allocations, In-Year forecasting, and other financial matters. Isaac brings over 18 years of extensive Basic science, Sponsor Invoicing, Clinical Trials grants management, and research administration experience gained during his time with the Office of Clinical Research MUSC, Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard University, Massachusetts General Hospital, and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC).

Isaac has a BS in Exercise Physiology from the University of Massachusetts Boston, an MBA from Point Park University, Pittsburgh, PA, and a Master of Public Management (MPM) from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA. In addition, he is a Certified Research Administrator. Isaac is an active member at Central Baptist Church located in Downtown Charleston and a mentor with “Be A Mentor”; a Charleston-based nonprofit organization that offers school-based mentoring programs for elementary, middle, and high school youth. Isaac also serves on the Advisory Executive Board for “More Than Bread” in Grand-Goâve, Haiti.

Administrative Assistant

Earlnesha Lumpkin, MS

Earlnesha completed her BA in psychology with a minor in sociology at the University of Mississippi where she participated as a social and experimental researcher, as a volunteer in community engagements, and as a occupational therapy and sleep medicine intern. She received a MS in psychology from the University of Houston - Clear Lake, where she became a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success as a team-leader. Most recently, she completed a ten-month internship researching minority mental health, early psychosis, and empathy, while also obtaining hands-on experience in the clinical environment at Gordon’s Medical Arts Clinic, in Clinton, MS. 

In her free time, she enjoys the outdoors, reading, live music, group fitness, cooking, and creative outlets. She is excited to become a member of the RML team and is looking forward to connecting with other members of the NNLM, and exploring Charleston.
